Embracing the Reality of Winter

Love it or hate it, the toughest part about winter is often the cold. Here are our top tips to get through it! Think “cold hands, warm hearts!”

  1. Invest in some quality winter gear. The right equipment makes all the difference! We typically think of high-quality winterwear as being for serious skiers or snowboarders, but it's actually made for all of us! If you're on a budget, check out outlet stores or clearance--often retailers like The North Face and Eddie Bauer get rid of last year's styles for a steep discount. But warmth starts at the core: step one is always long underwear! If you're not from New England, you'll be surprised at how much warmer you'll be when you add a pair of leggings under your jeans! Keep your core warm with a vest, then complete the ensemble with some waterproof boots and gloves, and of course, a hat!

  2. Keep your car at the ready. Do some easy, early-winter maintenance: top off your windshield washer fluid, and check your wiper blades and tire pressure. It's also always wise to keep a winter survival kit in the trunk of your car so that you’ll be okay in an emergency! To create a trunk kit, you'll need sand or salt, a shovel, a blanket, and road flares and other maintenance tools. Always keep your phone charged when you hit the road in the winter, and never leave your coat behind, even if you're just out for a short drive. If something happens, you'll need it!

  3. Prep nourishing meals for little effort. Do you have a slow-cooker or pressure cooker? Tis the season to break it out and make some delicious comfort food without having to do a ton of dishes. Slow-cooked meals are the perfect thing for the folks who work from home, since you can leave the slow-cooker on all day while you're home! Bonus - your house will smell sooo yummy.  Here's a huge list of 100 slow-cooker meals!

Enjoy, and stay cozy!
